Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were the first UK Fire Service to take delivery of bespoke Urban Search and Rescue units issued as part of the Governments New Dimension programme.
The New Dimension Programme is part of the Governments efforts to enhance the Country's preparedness and resilience to respond to major incidents by improving the capability of the Fire and Rescue Services.
The equipment is provided to respond to the full spectrum of rescue needs, including acoustic and visual search equipment, improvised and timber shoring equipment, heavy lifting and cutting equipment, working at height equipment as well as a multi purpose all terrain vehicle.
This equipment will allow the fire and rescue service to perform specialist rescue operations over, in and under a large area for extended periods of time.
The equipment will help in responding to any incident, involving unstable or collapsed structures and major transportation incidents. This applies to responding to major emergencies as well as supporting day-to-day business involving unstable or collapsed structures. It will be capable of operating in a multi-agency environment and integrate with existing capabilities.
