Technical Rescue

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service formed the Technical Rescue Team in January of 2005 in response to the increased rescue calls dealt with by the Service, and the provision by the Government of the "New Dimension" vehicles and equipment to them.

The team are based at Leicester Southern Station, and have a total crew of 26. They operate watches the same as normal firefighters (red, white, green and blue). There would generally be 7 crew on each watch, but they can operate a minimum of 4.

In addition to working the watch system, each crew member is on a 1 hour callout for 93 hours per month to man the New Dimension appliances which can be called to anywhere in the country.

The crew have vehicles and equipment to deal with all kinds of rescues, and over the next few months we will be spending time with them to bring you photos and information about their work.

The first section covers the Ford Ranger and Heavy Rescue Support Unit (HRSU), the Rope Rescue van and the boats.

Many thanks to the crew of Blue Watch for their assistance with this project.
