IRU Main Page (Incident Response Unit)

These vehicles are crewed by firefighters, not technical rescue crew, and are provided by DCLG (Department for Communities and Local Government) for provision of mass decontamination at the scene of a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incident.
Up to 150 people per hour can be decontaminated in divided structures to allow the public to be dealt with in privacy.
There is also separate capacity to decontaminate firefighters in their dedicated respiratory protective suits.
